Leba (Weba) - At the Beach

We had our meeting with the court psychologist on Wednesday and at the end she said she would give us a favorable review. The meeting was about 2 hours long and she asked quite a few questions about meeting Maya, our bonding time period, and even how well behaved were the kids in the grocery store. After the meeting we got the kids snacks and then we headed for the bus to the beach.

There is a long story about having to pay for the apartment in Lembork that we aren't using and the place we are staying at the beach, "because we are not an exception and this is how everyone is treated." Although it irks us to no end, there is nothing we can do about it, so we took advantage of still having the apartment and packed only for the five days at the beach in our suitcase backpack. With that and a backpack per person we were able to walk to the bus, take the bus, and then walk to our hotel. We were actually pretty impressed with ourselves for packing so lightly for a family of four on a 5 day beach trip!

Today we took several bus/trams to the nearby national park. They call them the magical "moving dunes." After examining the pictures can you determine why the dunes may be "moving dunes." This is probably one of the last places where you can roll and run down the largest sanddunes - so we joined in instead of being worried about conservation! Then we went to the beach - and hunted for amber. We think we found a few pieces. Mason was so excited. What amazes us is that this isn't even mentioned in either of our guidebooks for Poland. The area is beautiful and the beach at the national park are relatively empty. We will probably head back tomorrow and walk more of the beach instead of sliding down the sand dunes.

We also found some truly eco-friendly packaging for sunflower seeds! Mason was very tempted to try them again just because the packaging was so cool. Who needs biodegradable plastic when you can have this eco-friendly packaging!

For our online friends who are all hoping to finalize their adoptions here in Poland over the next few months it seems there is a problem with getting passports in Warsaw. At the beginning of July Warsaw started a new process for issuing passports. We heard yesterday that there is an Italian couple that has been waiting for two weeks to get their kids Polish passport so that they can leave. This is a process that is at most supposed to take 7 days (including getting the US passport/visa). The lawyer and translator and trying to figure out if Warsaw will straighten itself out or if we should try to get the passport in Slupsk which is close to us. We vote for whatever the faster option - and more sure option is. If you have any info on how this process is going please let us know. After a four week bonding period, we sure don't want to be caught up in passport limbo.
