We finally received the phone number to call Maya on the 21st. They said we should call at 6:30am EST. This will be right after she finishes lunch, but before she has her nap. The directions were to call and ask for Maya. Matt brushed up on his Polish and we all got up on Friday to call her. They didn't speak English, but Matt managed to get across that we were calling for Maya. They put us on hold while they went downstairs to get her. After awhile they put her on. She did surprisingly well and after a bit we think she recognized our voices.
We were able to say hi, we loved her, asked her name, etc. She said her full name on the phone - quietly the first time then very excited after that. It was the first time we heard her say her full name. It was very exciting. She also said "My dad" (in polish). I think she might have copied what someone said the first time, then she got all animated when she realized what she said. She also said mama. She chattered on a little bit as well, but we have no idea what she was saying. Mason managed to get in a "hi Maya" in Polish as well. She also remembered her dolls name, Mimi.
After the call, we were able to confirm that we should call "no more" than 2-3 times a week until we go back. So we are thinking about calling on Monday and Thursdays. Stephanie is here this Memorial day weekend, so she will be able to hear her voice as well.
I need to figure out how to say, "I miss you" in Polish for the next call.
Wait, wait, wait........ Our translator is going to check in with the judge next week to see where things stand. Hopefully we'll get some positive feedback re: a date - in the near term.
