I've now dealt with the frustration of knowing we are here at least until Tuesday. Thank you for the reassuring comments. We've had a good couple of days. The town pool
finally opened (it is closed in July) and we went yesterday. There were more people working at the pool than swimming in the pool so we had a good time. I don't think you are really supposed to go "play" in the pool it is really just for exercising, so they charge per hour. It is a relatively small town, but we still had to take a bus to the pool. It is all part of the experience for Alissa and Mason and is really good practice for traveling together when we go home. Alissa really likes swimming and Mason has missed the pool this summer so we hung out for 1.5 hours. It really was a nice, clean pool. The 3 ft pool was nicely heated so it was relaxing as well.
Today we took a longer hike through a larger forest park right outside of town and had a picnic. It was a pretty long walk and since she refuses to use the stroller now she was pretty tired, so we had a quiet afternoon. She almost took a nap on the way back, but right outside of our apartment another kid decided to throw a tempertantrum right in front of her, only 10 minutes into the nap. It woke her right up so no nap.
It did mean she was asleep easily by 7:30 tonight. Hooray! At the very beginning she was afraid to go to sleep, so we've been through all kinds of renditions to make her feel safe at night and relax enough to go to sleep. We feel like we have made some progress on this front since she is willingly crawling into our lap to be rocked to sleep (at least she did the last co
uple of nights):)
We have been tracking her english and polish language acquisition and it has been pretty interesting. When we first met her we couldn't count 10 polish words that she said. Now we have more than 60 (that we know the word) and about 20 english words and even one new sentence, "I see _______." She fills in the blank with all kinds of words most of the time we are walking. I found "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see" on Youtube today and showed it to her. She was pretty excited because she knew alot of the words. This afternoon we had skype up and she came running in to say, "A,B,C" to her aunt. This was the first time she definitely said all three letters together, on purpose, copying the ABC song. We have been trying to maintain her Polish langauge while acquiring english language for several reasons. However, there are a few Polish words that we need to transition a bit faster, "mom" means "I have" in english - kind of confusing. TaTa and Brat mean Dad and Brother in english.
Hopefully Tuesday we will have good news and be sending you an update from Warsaw!
Glad to hear the pool opened and everyone had fun :-) I'll be thinking good thoughts for your family & can't wait to hear good news!
